Can Exercise and Pain Benefit Each Other

You probably would wonder why exercise and pain can be good together, because they are too completely different from each other. While the other one gives a lot of benefits, the other one is the cause of various sufferings. Exercise is very beneficial to most people, not only that it will keep you healthy, it will also keep your body in tip-top shape. So where do pain fits in this puzzle? First, let me refresh your memory of the scientific meaning of the word ‘pain’.

Pain can be a very, very displeasing sensation and emotional experience that is combined with potential or actual damaging of the tissues which is often co-existed by other symptoms such as fatigue and trauma. The characteristics of pain may vary among each and every individual. An individual can be overly sensitive to a stimulus, while others may not feel any pain at all. In short, pain hurts but the amount of felt-pain varies among each and every individual.

Here is where pain comes into the picture. With exercise, pain decreases that is why exercise and pain are good together. How is that possible? I can now imagine you with your face frowning and asking yourself the same question. When an individual is in pain, that individual is very much less likely to do any kind of movement at all, much more an exercise to say the least. Well, here are some facts about exercise and pain, together in harmony.

When you’re doing exercises, your body is releasing endorphins which are substances produced by your body to fight pain. Therefore, a big boost of endorphins will probably be the result of some extensive exercising. The next good thing about exercise is it increases the supply of serotonin in your brain. Serotonin aids the blood vessel’s flexibility, which makes it one of the most important substances in your body. When the blood vessels are pliable, painful irritations are less likely to be felt. Serotonin is also responsible for improving your mood which will help because your pain will feel much better if you’re in a very good mood. This substance is also helping your sleep cycles when you are in pain, which is very important that you get enough quality sleep so that your body will be able to combat the pain properly. Let’s add more to that, doing exercise also helps in stabilizing your estrogen level, a sex hormone that can interfere and get in serotonin’s way.

But if you’re a doubtful kind of person, you can always consult a doctor about the benefits of exercise and how it can help reduce you pain. You can ask him to set up a program of exercises that can be conducive to your health condition.

There are also health problems which involve constant pain such as arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, which can be helped by exercises in reduction of pain. These exercises are better known as therapeutic exercises which help not only in reducing the pain but also in the improvement of the physical function of the person with this kind of ailment. I don’t have to go on further to prove my point, let just say that exercise and pain are good together.
