Complications
There are a number of complications that are related to type I diabetes. The most critical of them can result in coma or even death. In some cases the coma stage is considered more un-nerving than death. If a person is suffering from diabetic coma, then this is caused due to the extremely high levels of glucose that is found in the blood. This has been caused by un-controlled diet and improper medications. Type I and Type II diabetes if left untreated can lead to complications that result in kidney failure, blindness and heart diseases. The factors that need to controlled for a patient suffering from type I and Type II diabetes are body fats, blood pressure and last but not the least blood sugar.

The most known complication that has surfaced in patients suffering from diabetes is a condition called diabetic nephropathy. Across the globe the most know cases of kidney failure have resulted only from diabetes. This is how dangerous diabetes is to the kidneys. At one stage the patient would require dialysis beyond which he / she should go in for kidney replacement surgery. The complications involved with kidney replacement surgery for diabetic patients are two fold when compared to that of a standard patient who does not suffer from diabetes.

Diabetic retinopathy is also a dangerous complication. However this does not take the life of the patient, rather the result is loss of vision. The growth of poor and friable blood vessels in the region of the retina leads to this condition. In the United States more elderly people suffer from blindness related to diabetes than any form of diabetes put together.

Another likely complication that is related to diabetes is numbness of the feet. This starts generally in the feet and slowly spreads to other parts of the body. The numbness can cause blisters or even an open wound to come on the feet. And when this does come the patient is not likely to feel pain and he / she may leave it un-treated. As a result of this the wound may lead to further complications which may end up in amputations.

Something that does not follow the norms of a diabetic patient is hypoglycemia.; This is a condition where a diabetic patient is suffering from abnormally low glucose levels. The patient if facing such a condition is generally identified as agitated and sweats a lot. He also panics and may loose consciousness, resulting in brain damage and sometimes death, in extreme cases. The treatment is giving him a booster drink of glucose or there are shots now a day that take care of these symptoms. The factors that cause these problems are in-correctly timed insulin intake, too much of exercises which has resulted in the sugar burning off and insufficient quantity of carbohydrates in the food that the patient has taken.

Some very specific Complications:
Glaucoma, cataracts, Retinopathy, High blood pressure, Stroke, Heart related problems, Nerve damage, Kidney failure, Hyperglycemia, Hypoglycemia, Diabetic coma.
