Diaper Rash and the Effects on Babies

Babies are born equal.  But in terms of diaper rash some have while in some negligible.  Occurrence of diaper rash on babies are common and normal.  The rash is manifested by red, itchy, scaly rash patches in the diaper area and legs.  It can also be found around the bottom.  They are deep red rash with yellowish scales mostly fond in the folds between the thighs and abdomen.   Sometimes it ism ulcerated.

There are possible contributors to diaper dermatitis.  These include irritation from urine and feces locked in the diaper.  Skin irritation due to diapers that rub against the skin, diapers that fit too tightly, irritation due to the kind of soap used in washing the baby and baby wipes.

But there are several ways to prevent or minimize diaper rash in babies.  What you have to do is to change the baby’s diaper frequently.  Always keep the diaper area of the baby cool, clean and dry.  Change poopy diapers right away.  Don’t wait for another minute to change the soiled diaper.  Change diaper brands, if it doesn’t fit snuggly into baby.  Uncomfortable diapers can cause baby to cry without really knowing why.  When washing baby use plain water or unscented wipes.  You can also apply diaper rash cream.  Even though, not all babies would need this still this can prevent the formation of rash.

But if in spite of the precautionary measures, the rash gets infected and become swollen.  It is time to seek professional help.  This may cause to spread out of the diaper area of the baby.  But more than that, if diaper rash happens during the first 6 weeks of the baby, when it becomes ulcerated and the baby is running a fever.  With fever infection must already have set in.

Although the indications might not be too alarming, evaluation from the pediatrician is valuable.  This can cause discomfort for the baby and may the baby might experience difficulty in sleeping.

Other treatments may include removal of the diaper for a few days, application of anti-inflammatory creams and moisture-resistant diaper creams.  This medicated diaper creams must be prescribed by the baby’s doctor.  This is due to fact that the cream might be caused of another allergic reaction if baby’s skin is sensitive to it.

As always, never forget that diaper rash rashes on a combination of moist and heat on irritated skin around the diaper area of the baby.  So keep it cool, clean and dry at all times.  Change the diapers as often as you can.  Never use harsh soap when cleaning the genitals and bottom of the baby.  These are very sensitive parts and extra care should be accorded them.

Proper skin care from baby onwards is very important in preventing any skin disorders.  The skin is the most exposed area of the body as it is also the largest organ.  When the babies were born their skin is often perfect in every way.  It is softer and smoother until the invention of diapers.
