Information Regarding Antioxidants

When you want to keep yourself immune from various types of diseases, you need to load up on foods which are rich in antioxidants. These are minerals, enzymes, and vitamins which keep your tissues and cells protected from free radicals. Free radicals, on the other hand, are toxic molecules which can affect your body's system. The former acts by altering the effects of the latter. This is done by giving the free radicals positive components.

Free radicals are actually destroyed molecules which your body produces due to the normal function of its cells. Since they are extremely unstable, they rob the components of your other cells' molecules; resulting to damage. Among the cell molecules that free radicals take are protein, DNA, and fat. If you do not have enough intake of foods which are high in antioxidants, you will not be able to neutralize the damage that free radicals cause. In turn, your healthy tissues and cells will get destroyed. When this happens, you will be more prone to several health problems.

Most people consume foods which have lesser levels of antioxidants. Most common examples of these are processed foods; which are high in sugar, fats, carbohydrates, and preservatives. What is more, processed foods or better known as junk foods, can greatly heighten the level of cholesterol within your system. If you do not act against this, it can result to heart problems. On the other hand, you are not required to stop eating your favorite ice cream or pizza if you want to avoid heart diseases. You can still enjoy a slice of pepperoni pizza and still keep yourself healthy. All you have to do is to take fatty foods in moderation or, better yet, small amounts.

When it comes to healthy foods, the best examples are veggies and fruits. These contain a whole lot of nutrients which are essential for the proper function of your system. When you include fresh fruits and veggies in your diet, you will be able to keep yourself from being affected by infections and diseases. One vegetable which has great amounts of vitamins is broccoli. A cup of this cooked veggie provides you with 100 milligrams of vitamin C; 1.5 milligrams of vitamin A; and 2.1 milligrams of vitamin E. Kale also has high level of nutrients. When you consume one cup of kale, you are adding 8.3 milligrams of vitamin E, 60 milligrams of vitamin C, and 6.3 milligrams of vitamin A to your body. When it comes to fruits, papaya has more vitamin C than orange. One cup of the former has 80 milligrams of vitamin C; while a medium orange contains 70 milligrams of vitamin C.

Aside from keeping you safe from harmful illnesses, antioxidants are also beneficial to your hair and skin. When you drink beverages and eat lots of veggies and fruits, you will be able to thwart the early signs of old age. Consuming foods which are good for your body will allow you to maintain the youthful glow of your skin. Furthermore, you will be able to keep your hair shiny and soft.
